HISTORY OF ERSKINE YFC

Erskine Boys' Club was founded in 1975 to provide an outlet for the youth in a new community which had very few recreational facilities. Unfortunately, 25 years later those facilities have not improved.

Despite the lack of facilities the club has continuously supported teams at all age levels from under 9 through to under 21 and amateur levels. This year we will be supporting teams from under 9 through to under 21. At under 10, in fact, we will have 2 teams. The teams compete in the range of leagues available throughout Scotland. Specific details can be obtained further into the site.

The club celebrated its 25th anniversary during 2000.

During the years the club is proud to have had players pass through the ranks such as Brian O'Neill, currently with Preston North End and who previously enjoyed success with Celtic, Woflsburg and Derby County. A Scotland regular in the past. Also, Derek Lilley, who has returned to his native land to play for Dundee United and now with Livingston. However, we should not forget the other many talented players who have also played for the club without achieving the same degree of fame and success.

With some 400 plus players from Oban to Erskine the club's ambition is to promote boys to the highest standard possible in football.

Indeed the club, one of the largest in Scotland, is proud to boast the success of Brian O'Neill (ex Celtic and Aberdeen now with Derby County - currently a Scottish internationalist), Steve Aitken (Stranraer), Derek Lilley (Dundee Utd), Chris Aitken (Clyde), Stuart McDonald (Airdrie), and Mick Moore (Hamilton).
All of whom started with the Boys' Club. In addition, there are currently players on S form with senior clubs.

It is to be hoped that the new millenium can produce another successful crop of players to match those of the past 25 years.
